Smart or DITO — which should I choose in the Philippines?

Choose DITO if you are in Metro Manila or a major city and want the lowest price: ₱199 buys 20GB for 30 days, verified from DITO. Choose Smart if you travel to provincial or island areas, where its coverage is materially better. The price gap is large; the coverage gap is larger where it matters.

Price: DITO wins clearly

DITO built its subscriber base on undercutting the incumbents and it still does. Its published packs are transparent and consistently cheaper per gigabyte than what Smart is reported to charge.

Coverage: Smart wins clearly

Smart is the oldest and most built-out of the three networks, with the widest reach into the provinces and islands. DITO entered the market as the third player and its rollout is still concentrated in urban centres. For a Manila-based user the difference may never show up; for anyone travelling widely it shows up immediately.

Transparency: worth noting

DITO publishes its prepaid lineup on its own site in a form anyone can read and check. Smart does not, and rotates promos often enough that published third-party lists disagree. That does not make Smart a worse network, but it does mean any Smart price you read anywhere — including here — deserves confirming before you rely on it.
