SIM Registration Act

Also called: RA 11934

Philippine law requiring every SIM to be registered to an identified person before it will work, with tourist registrations limited to 30 days.

Introduced to curb SMS-based scams and fraud, and enforced — an unregistered SIM is deactivated. Foreign visitors register with a passport, and airport kiosks and operator stores handle it as part of the sale.

The 30-day tourist cap is the part that catches people out. It applies to the registration, not to your data pack, so a SIM can deactivate while you still have data validity remaining. Do not attach a tourist number to two-factor authentication on anything important.
